Quartzsite, Bouse, "...Lying about flying..."

18 Nov 2014

Quatrzsite, Arizona,
is well known as a popular RV gathering place for the winter.
Already there are thousands here, retreating from the northern states,
where winter has been particularly severe and early this year.
In January there's an organized rally when hundreds of thousands turn up.

The whole town is geared around the RV crowd.

There are RV parks everywhere, catering to all tastes.
Some exclusive - "Dry", "Christian", etc.

This looks like an LDS community.

Some like to be close to their neighbours...

Others like to spread out.
Lots of real 'desert rats' out there......
It's all BLM (Bureau of Land Management) property around here,
so you're allowed to camp anywhere up to 14 days, free.
A vast area for many miles around so plenty of room for everyone.

Of course merchandising will follow such a crowd.

............................................................................

This is 'Bouse International Airport'
Really just a dirt airstrip,
where ultralighters gather, to
 "...sit around lying about flying..."
(That phrase was first coined by George, as we sat there...)

The strip is very conveniently right next to town.
Easy walk to the cafe.

............................................................................

This is nearby Alamo Lake,
another example of the present drought conditions in these parts....
That boat ramp is no longer near the water....
