Texas Oil Fields

25 Oct 2014

Flying from Stanton and Crane airfields, Texas.

The Permian Basin oilfield near Midland/Odessa
is one of the oldest and most famous of the Texas oilfields.
It was in decline since the 1970's,
but now drilling deeper and horizontally, and fracking,
have brought it back to boom times.
Saved by technology once again....

This old oilfield goes to the horizon and way beyond...

Near the town of Crane it gets really dense....

Only the golf course is spared....

Estimates say there are about 500 rigs working the Permian Basin now!
So that means a heck of a lot of workers.
'Hiring Now' signs everywhere.
Workers living in trailers everywhere.
Trucks and heavy equipment roaring around all hours.
Exciting!
If I was a younger fella I'd be in on it.....

............................................................................

I believe these were targets for bombing practice,
from training fields nearby during WW2.

............................................................................

Seen along the road south...

Not all Texas is flat.
Some beautiful mountains in the south west.
