Four Corners

14 Sep 2014

The 'Four Corners' is the point where the four states,
Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, all join.

It's just novelty interest,
and not really accurate anyhow, due to surveying errors long ago,
but I had to have a look....

That's it folks, the point where the imaginary lines intersect.....

I'd always heard of the infamous Four Corners coal-fired power station,
and the pollution they cause.
So wanted to have a look.

But I guess the real problem is the gases coming out of those stacks....

The reclamation work looks to be pretty good,
considering that nothing was growing there before....

A nearby golf course,
gives an idea to spell out a message in green fairways....

More rock and erosion formations, I just can't resist them.....

.......................................................................................................

When I arrived at the Shiprock airstrip,
these folks were already at the gate, trying to guess the combination for the padlock.
Usually it's just the altitude of the airfield or the radio frequency,
but this time neither worked.
We tried calling all the numbers for the manager in the airfield guide,
but no answer on a Saturday.....
Even tried calling the local police,
cause they usually know the code in case of emergency..
But the girl on the phone didn't know, and no one returned our calls as promised....
What to do on a weekend???

Then Erica noticed that alongside this locked gate
was a wire gate,
just held up by a twist of wire,

so we entered that way.

This is their Avid IV homebuilt aircraft.
He had done an excellent job, and was ready to start flying it.
I very envious, cause if I was allowed to register an aircraft here,
I would have one of those Avids in a trailer instead of the ultralight......
The rules that those Feds make, might be silly, but have to live with them......

Set up and ready to fly even quicker than mine....
